Greece has secured more than €61 million in European and national funding to support farmers facing rising fertilizer costs, Rural Development and Food Minister Margaritis Schinas told a Parliamentary committee on the primary sector on Wednesday.
Schinas said Greece would receive €21 million from the European Union, with the amount to be supplemented by around €40 million in national funds.
“On July 17, the Council of Agriculture Ministers will be called upon to approve the activation of the European agricultural reserve, aimed at supporting producers against rising fertilizer costs. Greece will be among the seven largest beneficiaries, securing around €21 million. This will be supplemented by some €40 million from national resources, bringing total support above €61 million for Greek farmers,” he said.
