EFF leader Julius Malema.

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have been accused by ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula of using defamatory language against him. Mbalula has hit back at the EFF, saying their accusations against him were “factually incorrect, legally unsustainable and founded on a deliberately distorted interpretation”.

This follows Mbalula’s remarks, in which he alleged that the EFF engaged in anti-immigrant vigilantism by going door-to-door to demand that foreign nationals leave South Africa.

In a letter sent by the party’s lawyers on Friday, July 3, the EFF told Mbalula to withdraw his remarks, issue a public video apology, and retract the statements on all his social media platforms, or face legal action. They warned that failure to comply would result in court action.

In response, Mbalula shared a letter by his lawyers, LS Mashifane Incorporated, stating that he rejects the EFF’s allegations in their entirety.
