Liza Colón-Zayas (“The Bear”) and Jeff Hiller (“Widow’s Bay”), who have both won Emmy Awards for their work, announced the nominations Wednesday morning at the Television Academy’s Saban Media Center. The Emmy Awards ceremony, hosted by “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” star Mariska Hargitay, is set to air on Sept. 14 on NBC and Peacock. She is the first woman to host the show in 15 years.“The Pitt” and “Hacks” dominated the drama and comedy categories.“The Pitt,” HBO’s hit medical drama starring Noah Wyle, nabbed 25 nominations. The final season of “Hacks,” HBO’s phenomenal comedy starring Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder, earned 24 nominations and beat out a record previously set by “Schitt’s Creek,” becoming the most-nominated comedy in its final installment. Some nominations surprised us with delight: Emmy winner Yahya Abdul-Mateen II nabbed a nom for “Wonder Man.” Others felt like huge snubs: “Industry” and “It: Welcome to Derry” didn’t receive any nominations. In this post, HuffPost digs into all the snubs, surprises and biggest takeaways from the 2026 Emmy nominations. Stay tuned for updates.Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje Deserved An Emmy Nomination For Making The Final Season Of ‘Euphoria’ Actually EnjoyableFew things made Season 3 of “Euphoria” actually enjoyable to watch, to me, but Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje’s boisterous Alamo Brown was definitely one of them. The acting veteran — who many might recognize from his roles in shows like “Oz” and “Lost” — and his strip-club tycoon character were part of turning the third and final season of HBO’s former teen drama into a Western-themed thriller, much to my dismay. However, I can still appreciate what Akinnuoye-Agbaje brought to the table, especially in making even some of the most confusing parts of Season 3 the most memorable. Akinnuoye-Agbaje’s Brown mostly interacts with Zendaya’s Rue, setting up her shocking demise and some of the most dramatic moments that still have some viewers pissed off. But that just speaks to how convincing the actor’s performance was, and how much it ultimately enhanced the series’ conclusion after all. I may not have been on board with Season 3 of “Euphoria” at the start, but it’s hard to argue with the impressive skills Akinnuoye-Agbaje brought to the show. If only they could’ve snagged him a long overdue nomination.Latest Live UpdatesJeremy Allen White Misses Out On Major Emmy Nom For ‘The Bear’ For The First TimeLooks like “The Bear” is no longer the awards darling it used to be.On Wednesday, the FX kitchen series received just eight nominations from the Emmy Awards — a major step down from its usual double-digit numbers. Although it showed up in a few notable categories, such as Outstanding Comedy Series, the formerly buzzy hit show was unusually absent from most major acting categories. For the first time ever, leading star Jeremy Allen White was snubbed for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series — a category he was nominated in for the show’s first three seasons (and won twice). His Season 4 performance, however, seemed to be a miss for Television Academy voters. Or it at least didn’t stack up to this year’s nominees (Steve Carell, Matthew Rhys, Jason Segel, Martin Short and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II).The only main “The Bear” star who scored an Emmy nomination this year was Ayo Edebiri for Outstanding Lead Actress. Meanwhile, the rest of the ensemble cast, who are usually up for noms (some even past winners), were shut out completely alongside White. Jamie Lee Curtis and the late Rob Reiner, however, landed nominations in the guest actress and actor comedy categories.Perhaps this is the beginning of the end of the hype surrounding “The Bear” in the awards realm. The show still has one more shot to bounce back with an Emmy campaign for its fifth and final season, which aired last month. Let’s see if it fares better next year. Kathy Bates Snubbed By Emmys Amid 'Matlock' Season 2 DramaI'm shocked Kathy Bates didn't receive a second Emmy nomination for her role in the CBS procedural "Matlock."The reboot series is one of the best TV network dramas, and it didn't receive any noms this go-round. For Season 1, Bates received a nom for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama, making her the oldest Emmy nominee for that category. This year's nominees for the category are Carrie Coon ("The Gilded Age"), Chase Infiniti ("The Testaments"), Keri Russell ("The Diplomat"), Rhea Seehorn ("Pluribus") and Zendaya ("Euphoria").Season 2 of "Matlock" has been troubled since before it aired during the 2025-26 TV season. One of its stars, David Del Rio, was kicked off the show in October after an alleged sexual assault incident on set. His character Billy was written off the show.In June, former "Matlock" writer John H. Lowe III sued CBS, citing alleged racism, sexual harassment and a hostile work environment.“We are committed to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for everyone and take all workplace complaints seriously,” a spokesperson for CBS Studios said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly. “In this instance, a thorough investigation was completed, and we were unable to find support for his allegations. We look forward to vigorously defending this lawsuit.”Lowe's lawyer provided a statement to EW as well: “There is no excuse for this blatant racism and harassment. CBS should be ashamed for allowing it, and the "Matlock" showrunner and producers should be held accountable.”Season 3 of the series is set for 2027.Finally, Megan Stalter Got An Emmy Nomination For ‘Hacks’At last, “Hacks” hive! Megan Stalter, who starred as Kayla Schaeffer on the hit HBO Max series “Hacks,” finally has her Emmy nomination. On Wednesday, the breakout star was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series after five seasons of making audiences laugh out loud with her wildly insane antics alongside Jean Smart, Hannah Einbinder and Paul W. Downs. It’s a long-overdue nomination for the 35-year-old who caught her big break thanks to the beloved comedy, and it's beyond deserved. Perhaps HBO Max should take this as a sign to give us a Kayla and Jimmy spinoff after all.Netflix’s ‘Death By Lightning’ Was 1 Of The Best Limited Series In The Last YearIf I were an executive at Netflix, I'd be clamoring to greenlight more TV series like "Death By Lightning," the streamer's four-part historical drama on the assassination of President James Garfield. It's a quick look at a real-life event with a ton of drama, and it's also, surprisingly, funny as hell. Matthew Macfadyen is perfect as Charles Guiteau, the delusional, revenge-seeking would-be assassin. Michael Shannon deftly portrays Garfield. Nick Offerman — who received two Emmy nominations Wednesday, one for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series and another for Outstanding Supporting Actor in A Comedy for "Margo's Got Money Troubles" — portrays Chester Arthur, Garfield’s VP and then his successor. Offerman’s Arthur gives audiences a great bit of comic relief throughout the four episodes."'Death By Lightning' somehow manages to make a dark moment in history educational, engrossing and, at times, extremely funny," I wrote in November shortly after the series premiered."Macfadyen channels some of that erratic Tom Wambsgans energy that 'Succession' fans know and love in portraying the failed lawyer-turned-assassin Guiteau. Offerman is also perfectly cast as Vice President Chester Arthur, who reluctantly takes on the presidency after Garfield’s death. Shannon is strong as he portrays a politician who unexpectedly becomes president." While I’m ecstatic for Offerman, it’s a damn shame that Macfadyen didn’t also nab a lead actor nomination in the limited series category. He was incredible. The series also could have replaced another show on the Outstanding Limited Series nom list — ahem, "DTF St. Louis." And I'm looking at you, too, "Beef."Zendaya Is A Step Closer To Pulling Off An Unprecedented Emmys FirstAfter another stunning performance in the final season of “Euphoria,” Zendaya is officially a three-time Emmy nominee. The 29-year-old landed her third acting nomination on Wednesday for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her celebrated role in HBO’s hit show. So far, Zendaya has won each year she’s been nominated, and September’s ceremony could mark a three-peat should she be crowned in her category. That would mean not only achieving a personal career milestone, but a historic one, too. Because if she scores her third Emmy, she could become the youngest and first Black three-time winner in the lead drama actress category. Zendaya’s no stranger to making Emmys history, though. Her first award for “Euphoria” in 2020 made her the youngest Lead Actress in a Drama Series winner at age 24. She then became the youngest two-time Emmy-winning actress in 2022 at 26, as well as the first Black woman to win a lead actress drama Emmy twice.Read more below.‘Industry’ Gets Shut Out From The Emmys Once Again — And People Are PISSEDSIGH — another year, another snub from the Emmy Awards for “Industry.”At this point, there seems to be no logical reason why, after four seasons, the sleeper HBO hit has yet to snag any nominations from the Television Academy. You would think that after the show achieved its biggest debut ever this year, it would warrant some kind of recognition from the Emmys. But no, the financial drama and its talented ensemble cast — including Myha’la, Marisa Abela, Kit Harington — were completely shut out of the nominees announced on Wednesday.Seriously, what gives? The HBO series has proven to be one of the network’s best in recent years, and it has a solid audience who treats it like appointment television. A show that started out great and has only gotten better surely deserves more than being constantly shunned by the Emmys. I’m not the only one who thinks so either. Sorry, but the fact that Industry got ZERO Emmy nominations is actual bullshit. That cast put up some hall-of-fame acting this season. Hell of a snub man.— Quenchi (@QueRedux) July 8, 2026
