Washington, Jul 8 (EFE).- The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) launched new attacks against Iran on Wednesday, after President Donald Trump declared the end of the truce between the two countries. “At the direction of the Commander in Chief, US Central Command forces have started conducting additional strikes against Iran to further degrade their ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz,” CENTCOM stated on its X account. “The United States is holding Iran accountable for recent unjustified aggression against commercial shipping and civilian crews freely navigating a vital international waterway,” it added. Following Iranian attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, the U. responded by bombing Iran’s southern coast and Kharg Island, in an operation that killed at least eight Iranian military personnel and one member of the Revolutionary Guard. “I think it’s over. I don’t want to deal with them anymore; they’re scum,” Trump said on Wednesday. “They’re sick people, they’re led by sick people, and they’re vicious, violent people. And if they had a nuclear weapon, they’d use it,” he added. Iran denounced the US attacks on its territory as a violation of the permanent ceasefire agreement reached on June 17 between Washington and Tehran. Hours after those attacks, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard claimed responsibility for 85 attacks against US bases in Persian Gulf countries, in which its naval and air forces used missiles and drones, according to the state-run IRNA news agency.
