The victims of the judicial overhaul, which Justice Minister Yariv Levin spearheaded upon the establishment of the current government, are all the country's citizens. Citizens who deserve to live in a functioning democracy, with checks and balances and an independent judiciary that defends their rights and restrains the government and Knesset when needed. Therefore, when Levin stepped up his efforts by declaring on Wednesday that a Supreme Court ruling – one that struck down the selection of a state comptroller due to a secret voting violation during the election – must be disregarded, he hurt the entire populace.
