The U.S. military has restarted strikes against Iran targeting their ability to threaten ships off their coast, U.S. Central Command said on Wednesday. U.S. forces also carried out strikes on Tuesday night as well, both of which came in response to three recent Iranian attacks targeting commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.“At the direction of the Commander in Chief, U.S. Central Command forces have started conducting additional strikes against Iran to further degrade their ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. The United States is holding Iran accountable for recent unjustified aggression against commercial shipping and civilian crews freely navigating a vital international waterway,” CENTCOM said in a statement.President Donald Trump previewed that the U.S. could carry out additional strikes earlier on Wednesday and he said the ceasefire was “over.”

“We attacked Kharg Island last night, knocked out a piece,” the president said, later adding that the U.S. “may hit it again tonight.”Trump said that while the U.S. could attack Iran again — which they now have — the U.S. is “not attacking at the highest level,” which he said would include infrastructure like bridges, energy facilities, and desalination plants.US RESCINDS OIL WAIVERS FOR IRAN AFTER SHIPS ATTACKED IN STRAIT OF HORMUZThe statement from CENTCOM noted that the targets they struck on Wednesday were selected to “further degrade their ability to threaten” ships off their coasts, which appear to indicate the president has not authorized going after critical infrastructure yet.Iran retaliated after the U.S. strikes on Tuesday with strikes of their own targeting Bahrain and Kuwait. They have frequently targeted Gulf countries with U.S. partnerships in retaliation for U.S. attacks.
