Amazon MGM Studios‘ scripted TV department is getting another shakeup as chief Peter Friedlander has promoted Kara Smith to head of the drama division.

In January, Friedlander revealed Amazon MGM Studios’ TV arm would transition from its previous model — split between wholly owned and co-productions — to one separated into drama & comedy, worldbuilding, animation, and unscripted genres.

When announcing Smith’s promotion to staff on Wednesday, Friedlander noted the appointment would come as part of further changes that now separate Drama, Comedy and Young Adult scripted TV.

Friedlander noted that he is still in search of a new head of comedy and head of young adult content to work alongside existing TV department leads Blair Fetter (Worldbuilding), Jenn Levy (Nonfiction), and Melissa Wolfe (Animation) and now Smith (Drama).

Amid Smith’s elevation, Friedlander says Amazon TV execs Jen Chambers, Michael McDonald, and Odetta Watkins will be exiting.
