The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) has approved generation licences for four solar PV projects, with a combined contracted capacity of 890 MW and an installed capacity of nearly 1.05 GW, in Mpumalanga and the Free State.

The projects form part of Bid Window 7.3 of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme and are being developed by Red Rocket SA and Engie.

The projects include Red Rocket SA's Sculptor Energy project, in Mpumalanga, as well as the Springhaas Solar Facility 1 and Springhaas Solar Facility 6 projects, in the Free State. It also includes Engie's Corona Energy project, in the Free State.
