KZN Amakhosi Vehicle Rollout Sparks Political Storm as Traditional Leaders Defend State-Funded Bakkies

These are among 35 vehicles that KZN CoGTA gave to amakhosi this week.

The Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa believe that it is about time Amakhosi (traditional leaders) in KwaZulu-Natal received sponsored vehicles to conduct their wide-array of duties.

This in spite of some political parties and others brandishing the move by the KZN Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) MEC as mere politicking ahead of November's local government elections.

KZN's CoGTA MEC, Thulasizwe Buthelezi, recently donated 35 bakkies to amakhosi as tools of trade to the Amakhosi.

The traditional leaders' national body's (CONTRALESA) General Secretary Zolani Mkiva said the recipients were deserving of the state-sponsored vehicles, which were important in providing much-needed services to their rural communities.
