Every week, the Mail asks two singletons to report back from their blind date. This week, Hayley and Sean recount their dinner date experience. Read on to find out how it went...Hayley, 31 Vital statistics: Single for nine years, no children.Current role: Lingerie quality expert.Would like to meet: Someone kind and funny (I’m told this is being picky), who doesn’t need their hand held through making a plan.Dating past?My last relationship was nine years ago, and before that I had a serious boyfriend for four years. I’ve been on 12 dates so far this year and I’ve started an Excel spreadsheet. I note when the date was, their name – or the nickname I give them – whether they cancelled or stood me up, who paid, if there was a second date and any lessons I learned. I’m hoping to collate it all and reflect at the end of the year.Pre-date nerves? No. It’s hard to be excited about meeting someone who has cancelled twice on you before. This was the third time the date had been rescheduled.First impressions?Sean is tall – enormously so at 6ft 5in – and handsome. I’m only 5ft 2in and was on my tiptoes to give him a hug, and I still couldn’t quite reach. Did I fancy him? He’s not bad-looking at all. He was instantly complimentary towards me, too, praising my appearance. I’m not usually into gushing platitudes, but I did thank him. Hayley's been on 12 dates so far this year and started an Excel spreadsheet, where she notes details such as their name, who paid, if there was a second date and any lessons learnedEasy to talk to?Yes, Sean suggested we had some fizz to start, which was lovely. I told him I was sceptical about him though. I was tactful, but I wanted to let him know that cancelling twice was something I had clocked. The conversation was puzzling at times, and I didn’t always understand the trajectory of Sean’s thought process. For example, I’d ask him how many siblings he had and he’d end up talking about his friend’s boat in Amsterdam. I put it down to nerves.Embarrassing moments? No, bar the cancellations, which Sean seemed keen to gloss over.Did sparks fly?I’m not sure. Sean is a very polite, well-mannered guy. He did get a bit shouty trying to get a waiter’s attention, which was an ick.I’m mulling over seeing him again. He asked what he could do to get a second date and I didn’t know how to respond. But on reflection, if he wants my number, I’m happy for him to have it. Hayley is mulling over seeing Sean again, saying: 'He asked what he could do to get a second date and I didn’t know how to respond'See him again?I don’t know. I wouldn’t be against it. In fairness to him, a dinner date is a long time when you’re getting to know one another. A drinks date could be more fun. What do you think he thought of you?Hopefully he thinks I’m OK – maybe a bit nutty? I do say exactly what I think. Still, he said I made him feel comfortable and at the centre of our conversation.Would your friends like him?I don’t think they’d have anything against Sean, no.Sean, 36Vital statistics: Single for 15 months, no children... yet.Current Role: Fashion entrepreneur and football administrator.Would like to meet: Someone straightforward, eye-catching, sporty and funny. Sean had to postpone his date with Hayley twice, once for a family bereavement and then when he was ill with CovidDating past?My longest relationship lasted five years and previous ones have each had a two-year trajectory. For my football work, I am in Amsterdam a fair bit and I have dated Dutch women. They are all wonderful – and tall, like me – but they can be very blunt.Pre-date nerves? No, although I had to postpone the date twice, once for a family bereavement and then when I was ill with Covid. I hoped this wouldn’t count against me.First impressions?Hayley is beautiful. She’s got a cracking figure and fizzes with energy. She’s one of those women who draws the eye of every man when she walks into a room. She looked amazing in the dress she wore, too. Within minutes, I discovered she had a smart head on her shoulders as well. I was very happy she was my match.Easy to talk to?Yes. Hayley is one of those charismatic people who can make anyone feel comfortable. She told me some fairly horrendous dating stories about men. It really made me think – as a sex, we need to do better. We also touched on our experiences in the fashion world, and I liked that she’s close to her family. It sounds as though she was raised on love.Embarrassing moments? No, none. Although Hayley ended the date quite quickly, we were together for three hours. 'Hayley told me some fairly horrendous dating stories about men. It really made me think – as a sex, we need to do better'Did sparks fly?Yes, from my side of the table. Physically and intellectually, it was a strong match. I held back on my feelings though. I’d need to prove to Hayley that I’m different from other guys, and I’m not sure I have space in my life to take that on right now. It would be a lot of work unpicking their awful behaviour.See her again?Yes, I would. But it would be a hard job getting her to let her guard down. Hayley was charming. She made lots of eye contact, laughed at my jokes, took a selfie of us together – but was she physically love-bombing me, while, in her head, I had already been friend-zoned? I decided I wasn’t going to try my luck with her. I didn’t want to overstep the mark. What do you think she thought of you?I think she was into me. She said I was funny and charming.Would your friends like her?Yes, anyone would like Hayley. You could take her anywhere and she’d be holding court in minutes. She can make friends with anyone. Hayley's verdict: 8/10 Liked? Sean’s lovely manners.Regrets? No, it was fun.Coffee or cab? Coffee. Sean's verdict: 8/10 Liked? Not pretending to be someone I’m not.Regrets? No, no regrets.Coffee or cab? Coffee. Would you like us to find you a date? Are you a singleton, or is there someone you'd like to send on a blind date? Email: blinddate@dailymail.co.uk
