Just days before her 76th birthday, Barrackpore pensioner Tara Bridgemohan was choked to death after intruders broke into her home, tied her up and ransacked the house before escaping with cash and jewelry.Instead of celebrating with the matriarch of the family on July 1, Bridgemohan's family were in mourning, awaiting the results of her post-mortem and preparing for her funeral scheduled for Thursday.The elderly woman was found dead in a bedroom of her Hassanali Trace home by her relatives shortly after 1.30 a.m. on June 27.According to police, Bridgemohan had been bound with black tie straps, while a red piece of cloth had been wrapped around her face.A post-mortem done on her body at the Forensic Science Centre in Federation Park on Tuesday determined that she died from asphyxia caused by choking.Bridgemohan was attacked during a violent home invasion, and after restraining her, the intruders reportedly searched the house before fleeing with her cash and jewelry.Investigators were told that she was last seen alive by relatives at around 4.30 p.m. The previous day.The relatives and discovered the house ransacked, cash and jewelry missing, and Bridgemohan was found dead in her bedroom.Police say the intruders entered through a window.Officers from the Barrackpore Police Station responded to the report and secured the scene while investigators processed the property for evidence.Police have not yet arrested anyone in connection with the killing and detectives of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations are continuing investigations.Police are appealing to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to contact the Homicide Bureau of Investigations of Region Three at 652-0495 or Crime Stoppers at 800-(TIPS) 8477 .
