Malaysia's Global Telecommunications Group has bought a 36-acre parcel in Kota Seri Langat, Selangor, to build a potential 210MW data center.Kota Seri Langat is a 2,890-acre planned development in the town of Banting, southern Selangor, that will house residential and industrial buildings.The parcel was sold by Compass IP – a joint venture set up to manage an industrial zone within Kota Seri Langat – to Global Data Infrastructure Sdn Bhd, which is the data center arm of Global Telecommunications Group.Kota Seri Langat is spearheaded by Malaysia’s largest state-owned fund management company, PNB, which, along with the country’s pension fund investment agency Kumpulan Wang Persaraan and real estate firm AREA Industrial Development Holdings, are the three controlling interests behind Compass IP.Details about development timelines were not provided.Global Telecommunications Group operates data centers in five locations. Four of these are in Malaysia - located in Kulim, Kedah; Melaka; Sedenak, Johor; and Kuching, Sarawak. Its other data center is located across the Strait of Malacca on Batam, Indonesia.The state of Selangor is located on the western coast of Peninsular Malaysia. It surrounds the nation’s capital, Kuala Lumpur, and contains Cyberjaya, a planned development that constitutes one of the country’s largest data center hubs.
