Blue Owl Capital launched Kirkwood Infrastructure Group on July 8 as part of its Digital Infrastructure strategy, creating a dedicated platform for developing, owning, and operating fiber optic cable and conduit infrastructure. The target customer list includes hyperscale data center operators, carriers, and municipalities.

What Kirkwood actually brings to the table

Kirkwood IG incorporates developments from South Reach Networks, which already has nearly 400 miles of network in place. That existing infrastructure strategically connects with 40 near-net and on-net data centers as well as subsea cable landing stations.

Over 200 miles of new conduit and fiber are currently being built through Louisiana and Mississippi. The leadership team has previously commercialized over 600 miles of network in the last five years across multiple Blue Owl platforms.

Scott Bergs will serve as CEO of Kirkwood IG, with Blue Owl board members Chris Jensen, Luke Gilpin, and Aaron Small providing oversight. The operation will run independently from Blue Owl’s existing investment in Texas-based Gigabit Fiber LLC.
