Ukraine also secured two big wins, including a significant new financial package, at the summit

ANKARA, Turkey – Leaders of the NATO defence alliance on Wednesday reiterated their “ironclad commitment” to the Article 5 mutual defence clause in a short declaration in which they also recognised Ukraine as a contributor to Euro-Atlantic security.

The declaration, endorsed by all 32 countries, stands at just six paragraphs and opens with leaders reaffirming their “ironclad commitment to our collective defence under Article 5” and that “an attack on one is an attack on all”.

The pledge comes after US President Donald Trump repeatedly tested his commitment to the alliance, calling it a “paper tiger”. He questioned pulling US troops out of Europe the eve of the summit held in Ankara and reiterated his claims that Washington should have full control over the Danish overseas territory of Greenland.
