The Kerala High Court has closed a contempt of court petition against K. Sudhakaran, MP representing Kannur, after he tendered an apology in person before the court regarding the remarks he had allegedly made about the High Court Bench which quashed a Single Judge’s order for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the death of Youth Congress leader S.P. Shuhaib.The petition was closed on Wednesday (July 8, 2026) by the Division Bench of Justice V. Raja Vijayaraghavan and Justice K.V. Jayakumar.Mr. Sudhakaran had admitted to making derogatory remarks about the Kerala High Court in a public function. In his apology, he said that the comments were made in a “purely momentary and impulsive nature and were not the result of calculated, malicious intent.”The contempt plea filed by lawyer Janardhana Shenoy had alleged that Mr. Sudhakaran’s statements amounted to an “interference with the administration of justice.” According to the petition, the MP had stated that the judgment of the Division Bench “was part of an agenda enacting a screenplay” and the “judge who set aside the CBI inquiry in the Shuhaib case lacked sense,” and had said that he had “never seen such a disgusting and below-standard order.”The alleged contempt was committed by Mr. Sudhakaran while inaugurating a protest march by Congress workers to the Chavakkad police station in 2024.
