Former higher education minister Nobuhle Nkabane has been elected as acting chairperson for the Agriculture Portfolio Committee
Former higher education minister Nobuhle Nkabane, who was sacked from the executive last year, was elected on Wednesday as the acting chairperson of the Agriculture Portfolio Committee to assist the committee in preparations for the next term starting in August.
Nkabane will act in the position until the next meeting scheduled for August following the appointment of former chairperson Dina Pule as the Social Development minister.
Committee secretary Albertina Kakaza officiated on the election, citing that the parliamentary rules provided that an acting chairperson be elected in the absence of the permanent committee chairperson.
“If the chairperson of the committee is absent or unable to perform the functions of chairperson, the committee must elect another of its members as acting chairperson,” Kakaza said.
