Cloudflare and OpenAI are kicking off a new research pilot to explore deeper AI integrations. The announcement, while light on specifics, extends a partnership that has already produced tangible products and, notably, moved Cloudflare’s stock price.

The backstory: from open-weight models to Agent Cloud

In August 2025, Cloudflare became a Day-0 partner for OpenAI’s first open-weight models, hosting them on its Workers AI platform.

Then came April 2026, when Cloudflare unveiled Agent Cloud, a full-blown platform for enterprise AI infrastructure. The product integrates OpenAI’s GPT-5.4 and Codex models, giving enterprises the tools to develop, deploy, and scale autonomous AI agents at production level.

Rohan Varma, the product lead for Codex at OpenAI, emphasized that the goal was to enable production-ready AI agents.
