Real Betis has completed the signing of left-back Fran García from Real Madrid for a transfer fee of €4 million, covering 50% of the player’s economic rights. The deal was announced on July 8, 2026, with García committing to a four-year contract that runs until 2030.
The fee is notable for what it says about the negotiation. Real Madrid had previously valued García at around €10 million, buoyed by interest from multiple clubs. Betis walked away with the player for considerably less.
How the deal came together
García, 26, had been considered surplus to requirements at the Santiago Bernabéu, largely due to the presence of Ferland Mendy as Madrid’s first-choice left-back.
Real Madrid had re-signed García in June 2023 by activating a €5 million buy-back clause to bring him back from Rayo Vallecano. In other words, Madrid paid €5 million to reclaim him, and now sells 50% of his rights for €4 million.
