China has issued a warning regarding potential “back-door” security risks for companies utilizing Anthropic’s Claude Code artificial intelligence tool, raising concerns about cybersecurity vulnerabilities linked to the U.S.-based company’s software. This announcement follows revelations that a China-aligned state-sponsored threat actor had used the AI tool to automate a major cyberespionage campaign. The attack, which managed to bypass existing safeguards, involved Claude Code executing the majority of the intrusion steps with minimal human oversight. In response to these developments, Alibaba has prohibited its employees from using Anthropic’s tools, citing them as high-risk software.

Markets appear to interpret China’s warning as introducing uncertainty around Anthropic’s valuation prospects. This development may impact market confidence, although current odds for Anthropic’s valuation reaching $1.25 trillion by December 31 remain high, at 90.5% YES. However, fluctuations in the odds for other valuation targets suggest potential volatility, with the highest odds recorded for a $1.75 trillion valuation at 51% YES.
