The Ionian University is adding artificial intelligence to all undergraduate programs, making AI a subject for students across disciplines. The plan combines two approaches.

Two new courses will be offered universitywide: “Basic Concepts and Applications of Artificial Intelligence” in the winter semester, covering machine learning, generative AI, large language models and AI agents; and “Artificial Intelligence: Ethics, Risks and Best Practices” in the spring semester, focusing on ethics, algorithmic bias, data protection, intellectual property and the European regulatory framework. Both courses will be open to Erasmus students.

Departments will also teach AI-related courses tailored to their fields. Rector Andreas Floros said some courses will be mandatory and others elective, with hybrid teaching supported by recently acquired infrastructure. He said the goal is for graduates to leave with basic AI knowledge and a critical, ethical approach to its responsible use after graduation.
