For the first time in nearly two decades, the world’s premier motocross championship has made a triumphant return to South African soil this weekend, drawing thousands of passionate fans to witness elite international racing.
The revamped Terra Topia MX track in Midrand, Johannesburg, played host to the 11th round of the 2026 FIM World Motocross Championship (MXGP) on Sunday, July 5, as a high-octane event which saw the world’s best riders duel across the MXGP and MX2 classes in a series of high-intensity races.

Among the standout home favourites were veteran rider Calvin Vlaanderen in the premier MXGP class and Johannesburg-born Camden McLellan, who currently campaigns for the Triumph Racing Factory Team in the MX2 category.
