Former Bafana Bafana striker and Kenya manager Benny McCarthy did not mince his words when describing his contempt for the quality of refereeing during Egypt and Argentina Last 16 clash on Tuesday.
Without being too crass, McCarthy hinted that the referee made calls that suited Argentina, the biggest of which was overturning Egypt's second goal because of a VAR review.
Egypt's second goal was disallowed before of a tackle that was made prior to the counter attack which led the Pharoah's scoring their second.
But then Francois Letexier, the match referee, decided to overturn the goal after looking at a VAR review following pressure from Argentina players.
