A Buzz Lightyear action figure from the personal collection of its Apollo 11 moonwalker namesake will feature as Sotheby’s holds three sales it dubs “Geek Week” in New York this month.
The Buzz Aldrin figurine, manufactured in about 1995 and inspired by Pixar’s film franchise Toy Story, is estimated at $US6000 to $US9000 ($8690 to $12,960) in Geek Week’s Space Exploration live auction on July 15. The lower chest plate of the toy is inscribed “To the Real Buzz” by John Lasseter, who directed the first two hit films in the series.
