The Lagos Indigenes Development Initiative (LIACO) has strongly condemned the decision by the Chairman of Lagos Mainland Local Government, Jubril Kolawole Emilagba, to rename several historic streets in the council area, describing the move as an assault on Lagos' cultural heritage and historical identity.

In a statement signed by its President, Olalekan Oshodi, for the group's Secretary, Abiodun Joseph Adesoye, LIACO rejected the Executive Order approving the renaming of streets.

The group insisted that while honouring notable personalities is commendable, it should not come at the expense of erasing historic street names that have existed for generations.

According to LIACO, streets such as Freeman, Jones, Glover, Wright and Anjorin are not merely road names but important historical landmarks that reflect the evolution, heritage and identity of Lagos.
