The Nigerian government has accused the publisher of SecretsReporters, Fejiro Oliver, of espionage and leaking government information to foreign governments, with the Nigeria Police Force summoning the investigative journalist to appear before its National Cybercrime Centre over allegations of "espionage and computer-related matters," according to a statement he shared on Tuesday.

Oliver, who disclosed the development in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, said that the Nigerian government is attempting to criminalise investigative journalism, revealing that he has received an invitation from the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre over what he described as unprecedented allegations against a journalist.

According to him, the police accused him of espionage and leaking government information to foreign governments because of his investigative reports published by SecretsReporters.

"I’m a spy. You read me right. The Nigerian Government has designated me a spy and, through the Nigerian Police, sent me a letter of invitation to appear before their Cybersecurity Crime Centre on allegations of ‘Espionage and computer-related matters,’" Oliver wrote.
