The Information Regulator has confirmed it received ActionSA's complaint over the South African Police Service's (SAPS) refusal to release records linked to President Cyril Ramaphosa's Phala Phala scandal under the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA).
The Information Regulator has confirmed it received ActionSA's complaint over the South African Police Service's (SAPS) refusal to release records linked to the Phala Phala scandal under the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA), but says it cannot indicate when a decision will be made or whether SAPS was justified in withholding the documents.
In written responses to questions, the regulator's Senior Manager for Communication and Media, Nomzamo Zondi, confirmed that the complaint was lodged on June 18, 2026.
"We received the complaint on 18 June 2026," Zondi said.
Asked how long the regulator was likely to take to adjudicate the complaint, Zondi said it was too early to provide a timeframe because the matter remains under assessment.
