The Netherlands has reached the limit of its ability to provide additional direct military assistance to Ukraine, Dutch Defence Minister Dilan Yeşilgöz-Zegerius said on the sidelines of the NATO summit.
Speaking to Bloomberg, Yeşilgöz-Zegerius said the Netherlands would continue encouraging other countries to support Kyiv, but its own capacity to deliver further aid had been exhausted. “We don't have opportunities any more as the Netherlands because we have done so much,” she said.
Asked specifically whether the Netherlands could provide more missiles for Patriot air defense systems, the minister replied: “We are at our limit.”
The Netherlands has so far allocated €9.1 billion for military support to Ukraine and has committed another €11.6 billion for future assistance. The country has also pledged €1 billion to the PURL initiative, a program through which European allies help fund deliveries of U.S.-made weapons to Ukraine.
Despite reaching its current limit on direct military aid, the Netherlands continues to support Ukraine through other projects. The two countries recently agreed to begin producing Ukrainian unmanned systems in the Netherlands as part of the Build with Ukraine program.
