Life in the Dales star Reuben Owen suffered a number of setbacks while celebrating a major milestone.18:48, 07 Jul 2026Reuben Owen admitted 'that's the end of my road' as he suffered a major setback during Life in the Dales.‌The star, who found fame alongside his mum, Amanda Owen, farmer dad, Clive Owen and his siblings in Our Yorkshire Farm, now has his own Channel 5 spin-off following his journey building his machinery business.‌During tonight’s (July 7) episode of Reuben Owen: Life in the Dales, which originally aired last year, he planned to drive 100 miles in vintage tractors with his Jessica Ellwood girlfriend, and some friends for his 21st birthday.‌Their plan was to drive tractors all the way to Whitby despite the fact they could only do around 16mph. They were keen to celebrate Reuben’s 21st birthday on the beach with some fish and chips. However, not long into the trek, Reuben suffered a major setback when his tractor broke down and smoke started pouring out of it.‌The star was stranded by the side of the road and his best friend Tommy was forced to step in and help.As Ellwood drove along behind him, she shouted: "Something smells rather hot.” Spotting some water pouring from the tractor, she added: “Reuben you have got a massive leak.”Owen and his friends quickly determined that they needed antifreeze and water to cool the tractor down, but they had forgotten both, so the TV star ended up using his drinking water. He also decided to change the fanbelt to help the rest of the journey go more smoothly.‌But as they got back on the road, things took another turn as they drove up Sutton Bank – a hill in North Yorkshire with one of the steepest roads in the country.Reuben admitted: "I am not confident here – this is going to take some doing. I am very nervous." Minutes later the tractor rolled off to the side of the road, with Owen climbing down as smoke poured out of it.‌Reuben looked devastated as he said: "I think that's the end of my road.” Luckily, Tommy came to his rescue as he had a tow rope and pulled Owen's tractor off the road."It's not gone well for the old lass," said Owen, saying it could be the tractor's 'final' journey. However, after it had cooled off for a while he managed to get it going again, which left the star feeling more positive. However, he had yet another setback when it turned out that his tractor had an oil leak. This meant they had to change its head gasket overnight.‌Despite the rocky journey, they made it to Whitby. Reuben was left speechless when his girlfriend gave him a cake decorated with a picture of his face.Everyone burst out laughing as Reuben joked: "What an awful picture!" After a wholesome day, Reuben thanked the group saying that the journey was one he will 'always remember'.He continued: “It's been brilliant, thank you. We have gone right across Yorkshire, from one side to the other, on our tractors. It has been the adventure of a lifetime really, thinking about it. I couldn't imagine spending my 21st in a better way."Article continues belowReuben Owen: Life in the Dales is available to watch on Channel 5.
