Italian banking company Intesa Sanpaolo has completed a cloud migration effort to Google Cloud.The company revealed on July 2 that it had completed the cloud migration of its core IT systems to Google Cloud, utilizing Google's cloud regions hosted in TIM data centers in Turin and Milan.Throughout the migration effort, more than 800 applications were moved, and around the same number were decommissioned within the bank's headquarters.Intesa Sanpaolo has two headquarters - one located in Milan and the other in Turin. It is unclear which site was home to the bank's on-prem data center that has since been migrated out of.According to Intesa, the migration ran while ensuring business continuity and without any major incidents throughout the process.Massimo Proverbio, chief data, AI, and technology officer at Intesa Sanpaolo, said: “By partnering with Google Cloud and TIM, we changed technology, reduced costs, and, at the same time, laid the foundations for building Isytech, the cloud-native digital technology platform serving customers and colleagues across our Group. It is a demonstration of TIM Enterprise's ability to govern end-to-end projects and accompany businesses and public organizations on innovation paths that combine technological openness and strategic autonomy.”Google's plans for its cloud regions in Italy in partnership with TIM were first announced in 2022 with the launch of the Milan site, while Turin joined in 2023.Oracle is also a client of TIM's Turin data center.In October 2025, TIM revealed it was planning to expand its data center footprint in Italy with a €1 billion ($1.1bn) investment plan over the next three years.Intesa Sanpaolo was formed in 2007 as a result of the merger of Milan-based Banca Intesa and Turin-based Sanpaolo IMI. The group currently has a market cap of €111bn ($126.9bn).
