The relatives and friends of Praveen (24) of Madathur near Thadagam in Coimbatore district, who was found murdered a day after he went missing, staged a protest in front of the Government Medical College and ESI Hospital here on Tuesday.The protesters refused to accept his body from the hospital and squatted on Kamarajar Road in the afternoon. They accused the police of failing to take the complaint regarding Praveen’s disappearance seriously. Two persons who claimed to have been involved in the murder surrendered before a court before the police could arrest them, they said.Manoj (24) of Karur and his friend Karthik (21) surrendered before a judicial magistrate court on Monday claiming that they had murdered Praveen, a photographer-cum-cricketer.According to the police, Manoj was in an alleged relationship with a woman from Saibaba Colony. He feared that Praveen was getting close to her and decided to eliminate him.Manoj claimed that he made Praveen come to Oddanchatram in Dindigul district on July 2 under the pretext of arranging a photoshoot. The duo made him drink alcohol excessively and strangled him in a car. They placed the body on a railway track near Kinathukadavu and it was found run over by a train the next morning.The Government Railway Police (GRP) team from Podanur station initially suspected that it could have been death by suicide. They later traced the identity of the deceased, who was reported missing by his family on July 3 at the Thadagam police station.As the police were in the efforts to trace persons who had got in touch with Praveen, Manoj and Karthik surrendered before the court on Monday.The protesters withdrew the road blockade and accepted the body after officials from the GRP and Singanallur station held talks with them.
