The Ottawa Senators have re-signed forward Claude Giroux to a one-year contract extension, a league source told The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun.According to the source, who spoke anonymously to disclose details that aren’t yet public, the deal carries a $2 million cap hit with $3 million in potential performance bonuses, including $1.5 million if Giroux hits the 10-game mark and another $500,000 if he reaches 40 games.Giroux’s contract also contains a full no-movement clause.The 38-year-old will return for his fifth season with the Senators, having scored 85 goals and 242 points in 327 career games with the franchise. Giroux finished the 2025-26 regular season with a league-best 63.1 percent faceoff rate. His previous deal was a one-year contract extension that carried a base salary of $2 million and up to $2.75 million in performance bonuses.Giroux signed with Ottawa as a free agent in July 2022 after spending the bulk of his career with the Philadelphia Flyers, followed by a cameo with the Florida Panthers. A handful of teams expressed interest, including the Flyers. Senators GM Steve Staios said they offered Giroux a contract as far back as March, around the NHL trade deadline, and that their free-agency plans were held up as they waited for the 38-year-old to make a decision. Flyers GM Daniel Brière publicly acknowledged discussions were held between him and Giroux, but couldn’t say more. Giroux played 1,000 games for Philadelphia, which drafted him in 2006, and scored 291 goals and 900 career points for the franchise.
