Two motorists died following a head-on collision between two motorcycles on National Highway 66 near Trasi Beach in Udupi district on Monday.The police gave the names of the deceased as Deepak Nagappa Naika, 23, of Bhatkal and Patrik Vaaz, 63, of Padukone Hadavu.The Gangolli police said Deepak Nagappa Naika was on his way one-way towards Kundapur from Byndoor. Patriz Vaaz came in the opposite direction, in violation of the one-way rule, and hit Naika’s motorcycle head-on around 3 p.m. Vaaz was riding towards Maravanthe from Trasi with one Plancita as pillion.Both the motorists and Plancita fell off the vehicles. Naika succumbed to his injuries while he was being taken to the hospital. Vaaz died in a private hospital on Tuesday morning. Plancita is undergoing treatment in the hospital and is out of danger, the police said.The Gangolli police have registered a case against the deceased Vaaz for offences under Sections 281 (rash and negligent driving on a public way), 125(A) (act endangering life or personal safety of others), and 106 (causing death by negligence) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
