A joint search operation by the Navy and the Coast Guard is underway to locate six fishermen who went missing at sea off the Visakhapatnam coast on July 1, in Visakhapatnam on Monday.

The search and rescue operation for the six missing fishermen continues on a ‘war footing’ on Tuesday..Briefing about the latest search operation update to the media at around 2.30 p.m. on Tuesday, District Collector M. Abhishikt Kishore said that the Indian Coast Guard and the Indian Navy were carrying out extensive search operations at sea to locate the missing fishermen.The Collector said that Indian Coast Guard ships ICGS Kanak Lata Barua and ICGS Veera have been deployed for the operation. In addition, three Coast Guard helicopters are conducting aerial searches over a vast stretch of the sea. He further stated that the Indian Navy’s Eastern Naval Command has deployed two naval warships, a Sea King helicopter and an Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) to strengthen the ongoing operation. This apart, coastal patrol teams have been directed to intensify checks along the coastline as part of the search efforts.The search operation is being continuously monitored by the Regional Operations Centre (ROC) in the city to ensure effective coordination among all agencies involved, and added that instructions have been issued to continue the search operation without interruption until the missing fishermen are traced.The Collector added that the district administration is reviewing the situation regularly through the local Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) and other officials.Meanwhile, one of the fishermen, K. Chinna, who was rescued safely with the assistance of personnel from the Indian Navy and the Coast Guard on July 6, is undergoing treatment at KIMS.
