For the first time since the Special Investigation Team (SIT) took over the alleged donation theft case at the Ram temple in Ayodhya, former general secretary of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust and senior VHP leader Champat Rai on Tuesday (July 7, 2026) said he would respond to all allegations against him only after the SIT submits its final report.In a handwritten letter addressed to the “devotees of Lord Ram”, Mr. Rai said several “false narratives” and “baseless allegations” had been circulated against him since the alleged theft came to light on April 10, but he had maintained complete silence.Stating that the SIT had so far submitted only a preliminary report, he said he would present his response only after the investigation was completed.“If this report had been the final report, there might have been a need for me to respond. However, after the SIT completes its investigation and submits its final report, I will give detailed answers to all the questions being raised. The entire truth will come before the public,” he wrote.Mr. Rai, who said he had been associated with the Ram Janmabhoomi movement since being deputed to Ayodhya in 1991, described his public life as “an open book” and said he was confident that the truth would ultimately prevail.
