The Delta State Police Command has demoted an inspector and a corporal after they were found guilty of extortion and other misconduct over a viral video showing them receiving money from a motorist through a Point-of-Sale terminal inside a police station.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, upheld the findings of the orderly room trial of Inspector Augustine Jeremiah and Corporal Miracle Ehirim of C Division, Asaba.
The officers, who were captured in a viral video on January 13, 2026, receiving money from a motorist through a POS terminal within the station, were found guilty of “Disobedience to Lawful Order, Extortion and Discreditable Conduct,” contrary to the provisions of the Police Act, 2020.
Following the disciplinary proceedings, Jeremiah was reduced in rank from Inspector to Sergeant, while Ehirim was demoted from Corporal to Constable.
