Scott Mills' husband, Sam Vaughan, appears to have made a subtle dig at Sara Cox, who made her BBC Radio 2 Breakfast debut, replacing the former presenter10:12, 07 Jul 2026Updated 10:12, 07 Jul 2026Scott Mills' husband had made an apparent dig at Sara Cox. As the broadcaster kicked off her BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show on Monday, it became clear that Mills and his husband, Sam Vaughan, were not tuning in.Mills, who was axed from his role at the BBC earlier this year, and Cox, who replaced him, had been friends for three decades. Mills has not yet spoken publicly about his pal replacing him.But as Sara launched her show yesterday, Sam, 37, took to social media with a very cryptic post. While he rarely posts on social media, he revealed that he was listening to Heart FM.The picture shared on his Instagram Stories showed his and Scott's beloved Cavapoo, Teddy, in their lounge, with the Heart FM logo displayed on the television in the background. Sara and Scott both started at Radio 1 within a year of one another and she was also a guest at his wedding to Sam in 2024.Kicking off her show, she said: "It is 6:31am. It's The Sara Cox Breakfast Show! Monday 6th July 2026. Hello to your howdys, to your dafts of…come on! You know the nonsense I love."I'm actually alright! This is nice isn't it, it's nice isn't it. Sophie and Whitney are already regretting watching the footie. More on that in a bit," before playing Lizzo's About Damn Time."No message in the music, don't be silly! No, come on, that's too self-indulgent," she joked before teasing the intro to Etta James' At Last, saying: "It is a Monday and my first show, with your favourite DJ, me. Feeling a little bit clingy as per. I want some love."During her debut show, Sara spoke to actor Tom Hanks who called her the "most popular girl on the airwaves". Tom was there to promote his film, Toy Story 5. After they'd already spoken for a bit, Tom decided to introduce himself and said: "I'm here with the most popular girl on the airwaves on her new breakfast show."Fans are already delighted with Sara's breakfast show. Under a video of her first song choices posted to Facebook, one listener said Sara was "nailing it". Another said they "loved the choice of opening songs" and a third said: "You're a super talent and perfect for the job!"Cox took over from Scott Mills, who was sacked earlier this year, with The Mirror breaking the story at the time. The former Radio 2 star was axed from his breakfast show as well as other BBC gigs, such as the Race Around The World podcast. His axing came after the BBC learned the alleged victim of a historic police investigation into him was under 16 at the time of the alleged offences. He was never charged and the investigation dropped.BBC bosses have said Sara's new show will "feature a fresh new format, packed with all the fun and games you expect with Sara, with the listeners at the heart of the show."They added: "She will be bringing all your favourite bits from the afternoon, alongside plenty of brand-new breakfast treats to start your day. Plus, she’ll welcome some of the world’s biggest stars into her studio for exclusive chats and memorable moments."The Mirror has approached Scott and Sam for comment.Listen back to Sara’s Breakfast show on Radio 2 here on BBC Sounds and follow the action on BBC Radio 2’s Instagram.Article continues belowLike this story?
