Tata Power will announce a new solar manufacturing project in Odisha in the coming months as it steps up investments across the clean energy value chain, chairman N. Chandrasekaran said at the company’s annual general meeting on Tuesday. The company has crossed 26 GW of generation capacity, including projects under development, and currently 66% of its portfolio is clean and green. During FY26, it commissioned around 2.5 GW of renewable energy projects and has another 5.1 GW under execution. It is also expanding its energy storage portfolio through the 1,000 MW Bhivpuri and 1,800 MW Shirwata pumped storage projects.Chandrasekaran said India was moving towards a cleaner, greener and more decentralised energy system, with renewable energy expected to account for nearly two-thirds of the country’s installed power capacity by 2030. Rising electricity demand from artificial intelligence, data centres and higher cooling requirements due to climate change will further accelerate investments in renewable energy, storage and grid infrastructure, he said.Tata Power’s 4.3 GW solar cell and module manufacturing facility in Tirunelveli has completed its first full year of operations, while the rooftop solar business added around 2 GW during the year, taking cumulative installations to over 4 GW across more than three lakh consumers, Chandrasekaran told the shareholders. The company also crossed 2 lakh cumulative EV home charger installations. In transmission and distribution, Tata Power’s network has expanded to 7,000 circuit kilometres, including a pipeline of over 1,800 circuit kilometres. The company now serves 13.1 million consumers across seven distribution companies in Delhi, Mumbai, Ajmer and Odisha. Marking five years since taking over Odisha’s discoms, Chandrasekaran said all four utilities have started paying dividends, while aggregate technical and commercial (AT&C) losses have declined by 15 percentage points since the acquisition, including a two-percentage-point reduction in FY26.Published on July 7, 2026
