Mohammad Kazem Al-e Sadegh, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Iraq, announced that President Masoud Pezeshkian, accompanied by several senior officials of the Islamic Republic and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, will travel to Iraq on Tuesday evening, July 7, to participate in the official reception ceremony for the body of Ali Khamenei.
According to Al-e Sadegh, the official reception ceremony for Khamenei’s body will be held on Tuesday night in the city of Najaf, and the public funeral procession will begin at 6:00 AM on Wednesday in the cities of Najaf and Karbala.
Simultaneously, Hassan Hassanzadeh, the head of the Headquarters for the Farewell, Prayer, and Funeral Ceremony of Ali Khamenei, announced that the funeral procession in Tehran ended as scheduled at 5:00 PM on Monday, and the coffins were transferred to Qom before the Maghrib and Isha prayers.
Meanwhile, an official from the Commemoration Committee for Ali Khamenei in Mashhad stated that, contrary to some speculation, a public farewell ceremony will not be held in the city.
Mehdi Shad, the secretary of the committee’s information department, announced that the funeral procession in Mashhad will take place on Thursday, July 9, on the main streets leading to the shrine of Imam Reza, and the burial ceremony will be carried out after prayers are performed.
