Twenty-two-year-old New Zealand volunteer Sam Haines was killed while fighting for Ukraine.
According to Ukrinform, the New Zealand Herald stated this in an article.
Haines was killed in 2025 in Ukraine's Donetsk region, although his death had not been publicly disclosed until now.
Haines was from North Shore, a suburb of Auckland.
Before leaving New Zealand in early 2025, the closest experience he had to military training was playing airsoft. He later enrolled in the Defence Studies program at Massey University.
