The Yobe State Government has disclosed of how it tactically restricted the use of some fertilisers capable of being used to manufacture improvised explosive devices during the peak of the Boko Haram insurgency as part of measures to deny terrorists access to bomb-making materials.
The Secretary to the State Government, Mohammed Goje, disclosed this in an exclusive interview with Arewa PUNCH on Tuesday, explaining that the policy was introduced alongside other security measures to protect returning communities while sustaining agricultural production.
According to him, the restriction became necessary because some fertilisers were being diverted by insurgents for the production of explosive devices.
“There was a specific restriction on fertiliser because fertiliser was being used to make bombs,” Goje said.
