Amadou Onana’s body keeps sending the same message, and neither Aston Villa nor Belgium’s national team management seems to enjoy reading it. The Belgian midfielder was forced off during an international match against the United States men’s national team after sustaining an injury from a collision with US defender Antonee Robinson.

A pattern that is getting harder to ignore

This is not a one-off bad-luck story. Onana has been dealing with a recurring lower-body injury profile that has chipped away at his availability throughout the 2025-26 season.

He missed approximately 43 days between August and October 2025 due to hamstring problems, a stretch long enough to disrupt any rhythm a player builds at the start of a campaign. Then came further calf complications that cost him additional time in April and May 2026, compounding the concern around his physical durability.

What this means for Aston Villa and Belgium
