More than three months after the Hate Speech Bill was referred to the select committee, the State Legislative Assembly has announced the constitution of the select committee on Monday.The Telangana Hate Speech and Hate Crimes Prevention Act, 2026, was tabled in the Assembly towards the end of the budget session 2026-27. But it was referred to the select committee as several members objected to some provisions which they said could lead to vindictive steps.The committee will be headed by BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar as its chairman and 12 members from the parties with representation in the Legislative Assembly as its members. The members are: Balu Naik Nenavath, T, Lakshmi Kantha Rao, G. Madhusudhan Reddy, K. Rajesh Reddy, Kavvampalli Satyanarayana, Yeshaswini Mamidala, Danam Nagender, Kova Lakshmi, K. Manik Rao, Rama Rao Pawar, Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala and Kunamaneni Sambasiva Rao.It was asked to submit its report to the House on or before the concluding session of the monsoon session of the assembly.Meanwhile, several joint committees of the legislature as well as those of assembly and council were also constituted on Monday. The joint committees include one on subordinate legislation headed by Kadiyam Srihari, amenities (Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy), Welfare of Scheduled Castes (Vedma Bhojju), Welfare of Scheduled Tribes (Payam Venkateswarlu), Welfare of Backward Classes (Makhansingh Raj Thakur) and Welfare of Women and Children (N. Padmavathi Reddy).The assembly committees included Rules Committee headed by Legislative Assembly Speaker, Committees on Privileges and Petitions headed by Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Government Assurances (P.
