Telangana Government has formed a Cabinet sub-committee under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, for suggestions on drafting Rohit Vemula Bill.
It has issued orders on Friday (April 17, 2026) constituting the sub-committee to study and give recommendations or suggestions on making a suitable legislation on Rohit Vemula Telangana (Prevention of identity based discrimination in higher education) Bill, 2026.
Its members are Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha, Backward Classes (BC) Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and IT & Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu. The Special Chief Secretary, Scheduled Castes Development Department was appointed as Convenor. “The Cabinet sub-committee shall submit recommendations at the earliest,” as per the order.
In April, 2025, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress senior leader Rahul Gandhi requested Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to enact Rohit Vemula Act, to which the latter responded positively. The State Cabinet on March 23, 2026, approved the constitution of a sub-committee for Rohith Vemula Act framework.
Meanwhile, the Karnataka Rohit Vemula (Prevention of Discrimination, Exclusion or Injustice) (Right to Education and Dignity) Bill, 2026, was cleared by the Karnataka Cabinet on Thursday (April 16, 2026).
