IREN Limited’s stock jumped nearly 15% after reports emerged linking the company to a massive Anthropic data center tender in Australia.

The Australian Financial Review reported on July 5, 2026 that Anthropic is seeking to procure roughly 1.4 gigawatts of data center capacity in Australia, with an ambitious target of getting at least 1 GW operational by the end of 2027. The total project cost is estimated between $15B and $21.6B.

What IREN brings to the table

IREN announced an 800 megawatt AI and high-performance computing campus in Bundey, South Australia on June 3, 2026. The Bundey campus is described as one of the largest AI data center commitments in the Asia-Pacific region.

IREN is one of several shortlisted bidders for the Anthropic tender. CDC Data Centres and AirTrunk/NextDC are also in the running.
