A solar-powered sanitary napkin incinerator developed by students of Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science for Women was donated to the Corporation Girls’ Higher Secondary School at Siddhapudur in Coimbatore on Monday.The machine was handed over in the presence of Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja, at a function held at the college.On the occasion, Mr. Ravi Teja said the “Napkin Smart Bin”, developed by the students, would help ensure the hygienic disposal of used sanitary napkins and promote menstrual hygiene among girl students.He said the machine operated entirely on solar power, eliminating the need for electricity while contributing to environmentally sustainable waste management.The Commissioner said technology had an important role in improving women’s health, sanitation and waste management, and encouraged students to develop more innovations with social relevance.
