In a week-long special enforcement drive against drunk driving and overspeeding, the Bengaluru Traffic Police registered 732 cases of drunk driving and 57 cases of overspeeding between June 29 and July 5.The special drive was carried out across the city by personnel from all 53 traffic police stations. During the operation, officers checked a total of 48,824 vehicles to identify traffic violations and improve road safety.According to the police, 732 motorists were booked for driving under the influence of alcohol, while 57 motorists were penalised for overspeeding. A total fine of ₹57,000 was collected from overspeeding offenders.The enforcement campaign was launched to curb the menace of drunk driving and overspeeding, which are among the leading causes of fatal road accidents in Bengaluru.The police said the special drive would continue in the coming weeks as part of their sustained efforts to ensure safer roads, improve compliance with traffic regulations, and reduce accidents across the city.
