Ukraine's General Staff has confirmed that Ukrainian forces struck the Omsk Oil Refinery, located nearly 2,500 kilometers from Ukraine's state border.

According to Ukrinform, the General Staff said on Facebook that a direct hit had been recorded at the facility, triggering a fire. The extent of the damage is still being assessed.

"According to preliminary information, the strike hit the ELOU-AVT-11 primary oil processing unit, which has a design capacity of 8.4 million tons of crude oil per year," the statement said.

The General Staff noted that the Omsk refinery was the last of Russia's 11 largest gasoline-producing refineries to be struck by Ukrainian forces. It is Russia's largest oil refinery, with an annual processing capacity of more than 21 million tons of crude oil.

The refinery also has one of the highest crude oil processing depths in Russia – about 99%.
