Amazon has leased an additional four acres of land at its site in Powai, Mumbai, India.As reported by The Economic Times, the land has been leased from Larsen & Toubro Ltd under a 17-year agreement via Amazon Data Services, Amazon's primary data center affiliate.Over those 17 years, the agreement is valued at Rs 650 crore ($68.13m), and brings Amazon Data Services' total leased land at the location to 13.5 acres.Amazon first leased 5.5 acres at the site in August 2022, and an additional four acres in August 2023. At the time of the first lease, the company said the site would be used for a data center.Amazon Web Services (AWS) launched its Mumbai region in 2016. The company invested $3.7bn into that region between 2016 and 2022, and in 2025, AWS revealed plans to spend $8.3bn in developing cloud infrastructure for just one of its cloud regions - AWS Asia-Pacific (Mumbai).In Navi Mumbai, just east of Mumbai, AWS revealed plans for a $429.8 million data center near Taloja on a 49-acre plot of land in April of this year.In December 2025, Amazon committed to investing $35 billion in India as a whole, including in data centers and AI infrastructure. The company also has a cloud region in Hyderabad, launched in 2022. Late last year, the company said it would spend a further $7bn expanding its data center footprint in Hyderabad.
