Emmerdale is no stranger to airing a groundbreaking storyline11:10, 06 Jul 2026An Emmerdale favourite has opened up about a same sex romance storyline that viewers never got to see on screen.‌Actress Gaynor Faye played Megan Macey on the long-running ITV soap, making her debut in 2012. During her stint, she was involved in some big moments and storylines.‌From her many romances with the likes of Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough) and Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson), to her daughter being diagnosed with cerebral palsy, Megan’s time in the Dales was not short of drama. In 2019 though, Megan left the village to start a new life in Newcastle with daughter Eliza.‌And recently, actress Gaynor spoke about her time on Emmerdale and revealed that there was a potential same sex storyline set for her character.Speaking to Zingo Bingo, she said: “I remember when I was in Emmerdale. There was talk of me, me and another character having a relationship, me and Harriet [Finch, played by Katherine Dow Blyton].‌“In the old-fashioned world, love is love. It's not a case of, suddenly they turned their sexuality. It's a case of you just falling in love with somebody. It would be good to see more storylines like that.”Gaynor also spoke about a potential return to Emmerdale. She said: “I've not been asked to go back, to be honest. I left to go and do some theatre, but it's six years ago now. I was in it for seven [years] and I've been out of it six. I think I'd go back if there was a really good reason.‌“Obviously it's only really Jai there who was connected to Megan. If ever we needed to mess up Jai a bit, it might be quite fun. Obviously I've got a daughter with Jai, so that's a potential way to go back. Other than that, really, I think it's one of those things I'm always about moving on, but I'd never say never.”As for the recent Corriedale episode, Gaynor admitted she didn’t watch it but thinks more crossover episodes should happen in the future.Article continues belowShe said: “I don't really [watch them]. That time for me is usually when I come in, finish work, and have my tea. I'm a Buddhist, so I chant as well at that time. I heard it was very good and there was lots of fallout from that, which was great. I always thought that they should do it. I'm surprised they hadn't done it before, it’s only 40 miles down the M62.“It's such a great idea, so I think they should do more of it. It doesn't have to be a big thing. It could just be one person popping up in Weatherfield, or the other way around, somebody popping up in Houghton village - it doesn't have to be a massive crossover. It's fun.”Emmerdale airs Monday to Friday at 8:00pm on ITV1 and ITVX
