StreetLit book seller David Sithole at his stand in Gugu Dlamini Park.
We know our readers love reading and always relish a good book.
Again this year the Independent on Saturday is supporting the Dennis Hurley StreetLit project as our Mandela Day initiative. This life-changing project allows over 20 literate homeless people to sell books at stations around Durban and all the way to Ballito to earn a modest living and get back on their feet. The lifechanging stories from book sellers are heart warming reuniting with loved ones and their children to travelling to places like Poland and Australia on literary trips.
And to make it all work they are appealing for the books you have loved and enjoyed reading. Books for their vendors to sell. In particularly need are self help books, children's books and Bibles.
So here's a chance to clear out you library. If you have books you would like to donate to the project you can drop them off at the Marketing Department of Independent Newspapers at 18 Osborne Street Greyville over the next two weeks. Alternatively, especially if you have a large volume of books, contact Frank Chemaly on 083 230 5629 (preferably by WhatsApp) and we'll arrange to collect them from you.
